'Waves for Tommy' Charity Quilt...

27 May 2012: St John the Baptist Church, Kirdford. Presenting the quilt and the cheque to Tommy.
Tommy is to the left of the photo (dark hair / blue shirt) and Catherine is in the centre of the photo (long dark hair / red floral top) with her husband Paul to the right (dark hair/Priest).

Catherine presented the ‘Waves for Tommy’ Quilt which she made to show Tommy and his family support and help raise funds during Tommy’s Solo Atlantic Row 2011/2012. Tommy Rowed Solo Across the Atlantic to raise funds for a charity called ‘Mind’ – ‘For better mental health.’ and to raise awareness about mental health issues as well as encourage people not to feel ashamed about speaking about the subject, wishing to dispel the stigma with which mental illness has been cruelly labelled.

On Sunday 27 May 2012 at St John the Baptist Church, Kirdford on the feast of ‘Pentecost’, Catherine handed Tommy a cheque for £750 raised through people sponsoring her ‘Solo Sew’ to make the quilt. And then surprised Tommy by giving the quilt to him and his family as their ‘family heirloom story quilt’ – since the quilt tells the story of Tommy’s Solo Row across the Atlantic.

Tommy has broken a world record – youngest man to row solo across any ocean – and will be in the next edition of the Guinness Book Of Records.

Thanks to everyone who supported the quilt project.
Catherine.

Not alone...

Sometimes it can feel that one is entirely alone. But there is one thing worth remembering; you are not alone.  God is with you.
